EMBODIED MINDFULNESS, WITH VIVEKA

At Samish Island Retreat Center (North of Seattle)

On this retreat we will delve into the dharma teaching:

Body like mountain
Breath Energy like the ocean’s waves
Heart Mind like the sky

These verses are a simple pointing to the awakening and freedom ready to be discovered, here, in our present embodied experience. In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition these are known as the ‘Three Naturals’ and are an invitation to:

Come home to the stability and support of the body,
Befriend the cycles of energy and emotional energy natural to being human,
Recognize and relax into the boundlessness awakened heart and mind.

The retreat will feature meditation in the mornings, connection options and somatic (embodied) activities in the afternoon, and simple collective rituals and meditation in the evening. There will be times when we will practice silence as a community in support of rest and regeneration.

Viveka

Viveka (she/they) was ordained into the Triratna Buddhist Order in 1997 and is based at the San Francisco Buddhist Center where she was chair for 16 years until 2016. An international teacher of Buddhism and meditation, she currently focuses on teaching and leadership retreats. Viveka was a co-founder of Triratna’s Total Immersion longer meditation retreats and has led many month-long retreats. In 2022, she trained as a somatic coach and is enjoying how that is enriching her dharma teaching. Currently, Viveka is President of the New York and Mexico City Triratna Buddhist Centers.
She teaches with an open and compassionate presence, and deep respect for those she engages with. A proud child of Chinese immigrants, she lives in San Francisco with her husband. For 30 years she has worked for racial and social justice as an integral expression of her dharma practice.
