The Kariniya Metta Sutta is a key teaching in the Pali canon. It describes the unfolding process of a 'deep and mature emotional awareness', that begins with simple kindness towards ourselves and others, and points the way towards freedom.
On this retreat, through study and practice of the Kariniya Metta Sutta, and the Anapanasati practice, we'll be looking at how we integrate our growing understanding into 'a deep and mature emotional awareness'?
Dhammarati is president of the SFBC and visits regularly from the UK. Originally from Scotland, he has many years of experience teaching and leading retreats.
Most of the retreat will be in silence, apart from periods of instruction and review. We will share mindful cooking and cleaning, and there will be time to enjoy the area.
Meditation experience is highly recommended for this retreat. See our Newcomer page for information about our meditation classes and courses.
This is our first open retreat at Dhammadhara in Lake County and we're excited to welcome you there. There are some spaces indoors for those who need it, but most people will be camping or sleeping on mats in the shrine room. There are plenty of lovely camping spaces, and we have tents and other camping gear we can lend you if needed. We're expecting warm weather - probably in the 70's or 80's.
Weekend option - if you cannot stay for the full week there are a number of spaces available for you to stay the first 3 days, leaving August 7.
Cost - please contact us if you are unable to pay the full amount shown below, as we would like to offer scholarships to make this retreat affordable to everybody. Paying the higher end of the sliding scale helps to cover these scholarships - thank you!
