Native American Heritage Month Sangha Night Donations

Thanks to your generosity we were able to send $720 to benefit Friendship House!

November is Native American Heritage Month, and the SFBC is giving Sangha Night Donations for the rest of this month to Friendship House, an Indigenous led Organization in the Mission (15th & Julian off of Mission St), that has been providing services to Native Americans for almost 60 years.

Today 1 in 4 Native Americans live in poverty, which brings disproportionate incarceration rates, high school dropouts, teen suicide, and substance abuse.
These are just some of the issues that Native Americans face today that have deep socio-political roots reflecting a long history of systemic and structural racism and oppression.

Our donations will go to  the work that Friendship House does: Healing substance abuse, breaking cycles of poverty and violence, and rebuilding family bonds.

If you are able, please give a little extra each night that you attend Sangha Nights this month and keep in mind not only the history of Native Americans in this country, but the present-day Native American San Franciscans as well. Or if you'd like to make a separate donation you can do so through PayPal (choose "special benefit") - thank you!

There will be a spotlight on Native Americans in the soon-coming 2nd Edition of the EDJI Blog
