Day Retreats

Usually the third Saturday of each month, 10am to 4pm.

These monthly day retreats are a great opportunity to experience the benefits of retreat without leaving the city. Each month, through meditation, reflection and discussion, we will explore a different aspect of practice and see for ourselves how it relates to living well today. They are open to anyone interested in the topics, and no particular experience is required, though if you haven't meditated before you might consider taking one of our introductory classes.

Two Streamings Across the Doorsill

An exploration of  Nirvana and Samsara, taking images from Rumi as a springboard.

Vajradarshini is known for her creative approach to dharma and meditation.  Here's her current website: Red Ladder Studio: Where Dharma Meets Art.  We're very happy to have us visit again, this time through zoom.  Here's what she says:

I have an idea of a theme that I’d like you to help me explore -

What does Nirvana mean to us? And what is Samsara? Rumi has some lovely images for these two worlds and how we move between them. Asking ourselves these questions we find out about ourselves, what’s important to us, as well as what the tradition has to say.  I thought we could explore them through meditative reflection, and discussion in small groups with an introduction first from me.

Vitality in Stillness and Motion, with Manidha

 Vitality in Stillness and Motion

“The fastest way to still the mind is to move the body...There is no way out, but through the body.” Gabrielle Roth

We move throughout the day, but very few people are aware of how they are moving. Anyone can experience more vitality and aliveness through movement with awareness. Stillness, the background of all experience, can then naturally arise. Using meditation and somatic practices grounded in neuroscience, Manidha will guide you through a process of awakening the whole body and tapping into the brain’s unlimited potential for transformation. Anat Baniel Method Neuromovement, Continuum Movement, and Polyvagal Theory are some of the areas we will explore to rewire your brain and strengthen your nervous system.

Dates: Sept 18, 6:30-8:00pm, Sept 19 and 20, 9:00am-12:30pm (Zoom online)
