Sangha Nights in February: The Life and Teachings of the Buddha, Part 1

Sangha Nights in February: The Life and Teachings of the Buddha, Part 1

Practicing Dharma and Meditation in Community, Wednesdays, 7pm to 9pm, in person

This February we begin a new three month series based on the book by Vishvapani: The Life and Teachings of the Awakened One, available as a hard copy, audio or ebook.

We encourage you to read/listen to the relevant chapter each week, but the series is fully accessible to drop-ins and non-readers: we’ll start each evening with a short recap of the story and key themes so people can easily follow and take part.

February 4: Week 1

      • Introduction: Gautama and the Buddha
      • Chapter 1: A World in Ferment
We meet Gautama in his historical setting: a changing, conflicted world, and a very human figure whose story still speaks to our own search for meaning.

February 11: Week 2

      • Chapter 2: The Search for Wisdom
Gautama leaves home, enters the “spiritual marketplace” of teachers and renunciants, and begins testing what actually leads toward wisdom and freedom.

February 18: Week 3

      • Celebrating the Buddha’s Parinirvana, a traditional Buddhist Festival Day

February 25: Week 4

      • Chapter 3: Nirvana
The years of intense practice, self-mortification, discovery of dhyāna, and the night of awakening under the Bodhi tree: what “Nirvana” means in lived experience.
