Practice Morning: The Honeyball Sutta
Saturday Aug 8, 10am to 1pm
With Visiting Teachers Aryadrishti and Amalashri
Why do our minds become caught in stories, judgments, and conflict? Why do small experiences sometimes grow into anxiety, resentment, or confusion? And what can we do about it?
In the Madhupiṇḍika Sutta, known as the Honeyball Sutta, the Buddha invites us to look closely at how a simple sensory experience can develop into a cascade of perceptions, thoughts, and papañca – the mental proliferation that entangles us in stories, judgments, and conflict with ourselves and others. By learning to recognize this process as it unfolds, we can begin to meet each moment with greater awareness, clarity, and simplicity.
Through meditation, reflection, and discussion, we will explore how this profound and practical teaching can help us recognize and respond more wisely to the habits of mind that shape our everyday lives.
