Mitra Study – What is the Sangha
Mondays, March 9 to April 27, 7pm to 9
Exploring Spiritual Community
In What is the Sangha? Sangharakshita suggests that to explore the nature of spiritual community is also to examine what makes us true individuals. The Sangha in Buddhism is the free association of developing individuals choosing to help each other along the path.
This 8 week course is open to all SFBC Mitras.
Here’s the link to the Study Materials and discussion questions.
Primary Study Material
The primary study material for this module is What is the Sangha, Exploring Spiritual Community, Sangharakshita, Windhorse Publications, ISBN 0904766888. We have some copies in the library, or probably there are people in the sangha who will lend you their copy. If you prefer Audio you can find recordings here. There are also talks on Free Buddhist Audio but they don’t match the book exactly.
If you haven’t already taken the Foundation Course that’s fine, but it would be helpful to read through Year 1, Module 1 on Going for Refuge, especially the sections on Sangha.
Please pre-register.
While there are numerous benefits to studying in person, and we hope you can do this, we also know it’s not possible for everyone. There may be an opportunity to study online with Vimalamoksha. Let us know if you’re interested in this.
