Autumn Series: The Great Way

Autumn Series: The Great Way

Wednesday Sangha Nights, October through December, 7pm to 8:30pm

In 2026 our theme is the Buddha. We began with a careful exploration of Gautama Buddha’s life and teachings, and then moved on to the Brahma Viharas—practices that express kindness (metta), compassion (karuna), joyful appreciation (mudita), and equanimity (upekkha).

From early in the Buddhist tradition, practitioners felt that the benefits of Dharma practice extend beyond the ending of personal suffering. This gave rise to the Mahayana, or “Great Way,” in which the teachings of the Buddha are understood as opening into the vast potential of awakening – an expression of wisdom and compassion available when we loosen our sense of fixed self.

This expansive vision is often communicated through stories, symbols, and archetypal figures associated with Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

During October, November, and December we will explore this visionary tradition, encountering figures such as Avalokiteshvara and Tara through story, meditation, and chanting.
